ACORN Winery
Profile
ACORN Winery @ Alegria Vineyards
A true Sonoma County Russian River Valley gem! Note that Tasting is by Appointment Only
We are tiny, like an acorn. Tall oak trees frame our Sonoma County winery. Our wine is aged in oak barrels. So ACORN seemed the perfect name for our winery.
All of our wines are made from grapes we grow ourselves at AlegrÃa. Every wine is a field blend, following the ancient tradition represented in the mixed planting of our original 129-year old vineyard in the Russian River Valley. Co-fermenting multiple varieties make every wine, and we like to say that our wines are blended from the day they are picked, as this is what sets ACORN wines apart.
Today, after more than 30 years, we continue to find alegrÃa living in the middle of our vineyards while enjoying the cool Sonoma County Russian River Valley climate and continuing a long tradition by sustainably growing premium quality grapes and producing acclaimed award-winning wines.
Every ACORN wine is a field blend:
That means multiple grape varieties like Cabernet Franc, Dolcetto, Sangiovese, Syrah/Shiraz, and Zinfandel are grown together, harvested, crushed, and co-fermented. Blending is done in the vineyard, not at the winery. The melding of flavors from the different grapes starts at the very beginning of the winemaking process on the day the grapes are picked. The intriguing mix of inter-planted varieties in our Sonoma County vineyard in 1890 and the complex wine produced in the Russian River Valley inspired us to continue the field blend tradition when we planted more vineyard blocks. We planted complementary and major varieties because field-blending creates especially complete and complex, delicious, food-friendly wines.
Our fully accessible picnic areas adjacent to the vineyard and tasting room are available to tasting guests. In addition, we recommend two great local markets for all your picnic needs. Coming from the north: Big John’s Market in Healdsburg. Or, from the south: Oliver’s Market in Windsor.
ACORN Winery is located in the Sonoma County Russian River Valley AVA.
