About the Wine Road: A Journey Through Sonoma County’s Finest
As a Sonoma County wine lover, nothing compares to the allure of the Wine Road. Nestled in the heart of Northern California’s picturesque wine country, this winery association weaves together the vibrant threads of nearly 140 wineries and 35 lodgings across the Alexander, Dry Creek, and Russian River valleys.
A Historical Pathway
Founded in 1976 as the Russian River Wine Road, this organization embarked on a spirited journey, growing from an association of just nine wineries to a constellation of passionate vintners and welcoming inns. 2008 the name was updated to encompass its broader reach: the Wine Road Northern Sonoma County.
A Tapestry of Terroirs
Imagine winding through scenic byways, where rolling vineyards stretch under the golden California sun. Here, modern, state-of-the-art wineries harmonize with small, artisanal producers. Whether it’s the elegant, Italian-style villas or the quaint boutique wineries, each stop along the Wine Road offers a unique and intimate experience. But remember: to be a part of this journey, a winery must showcase at least one wine made from grapes grown right here in our treasured valleys. This commitment ensures that the Wine Road truly reflects our region’s diverse and exceptional viticulture.
Community and Charity: More Than Just Wine
The Wine Road is not only a guide to Sonoma County’s finest wines; it’s a significant supporter of local charitable organizations. Since 2005, the Wine Road has cultivated a special relationship with the Redwood Empire Food Bank. A portion of every ticket sold to the Wine Road’s engaging events—like the Winter WINEland in January, Barrel Tasting in March, and Wine and Food Affair in November—goes directly to helping those in need. In their 40th anniversary year alone, they raised an impressive $100,000 for various local non-profits.
